FEATURES
In today's rapidly changing healthcare environment, providers are becoming more and more aware of the need for integration within their organizations. In the same way that they are coordinating healthcare delivery systems to control costs, care providers want integrated access to clinical information to ensure quality and continuity of care.

Critical Considerations

1. MEDSYS IS HL-7 COMPLIANT. This is the new international standard for interconnectivity between different hospitals and medical providers, and even with laboratory and other medical equipment. All software sold in the US today has little market acceptance unless the vendor will certify that it is HL-7 compliant.

2. MEDSYS comes complete WITH THE VERY LATEST ICD-10 CODES. ICD-10 for the terms (WHO) and are built into our system with tools to facilitate there use by the medical records.

3. This quality software was developed in the Philippines, which assures you continuous and dependable support.

Overall Systems Features:
  • Relational Database: Shared information avoids redundancy - A common relational database design ensures integrity of data and full scalability for changing user requirements. VISUAL MEDSYS is optimized for MS-SQL: The standard for Mission Critical and powerful database servers.
  • Protection: Multi-level security - User names and passwords as well as terminal-level and data-level security ensures complete data integrity and privacy.
  • Systems Architecture: Based on client-server technology.
  • Simple user-friendly operation - Through menu-driven, point and click operation with minimum keyboard utilization: Doctor and nurse tested.
The MEDSYS Medical Information System has two principal objectives:
  • To raise the level of patient service
  • To improve operating efficiency

Expected patient service benefits. Specifically the project will improve the services to patients in some of the following ways:

    1. Provide immediate access to a patient's historical medical information, including past diagnosis, x-ray, lab and other clinical results both at the Emergency Room, nurse’s station, or doctor’s office.

    2. Reduce nurse workload by linking the nurses’ stations and billing electronically. Requests and results will be sent instantly via computer communications. Also the problem of delayed or missing lab and other clinical results will be eliminated.

    3. The Medical Records department will also benefit from the automated reporting procedure and generation of the Medical Certificate.

Operation will be enhanced and controlled through the following:

    1. Improved monitoring of pharmacy and CSR inventory. (Overstock, under-stock, expiring drugs and all issuances.)

    2. Automatic preparation of such reports as the lab, x-ray log books.

    3. Computerized output for information of diseases, operations as well as the patient indexes.

    4. Faster and more accurate patient billing. Better Cash control reports. Initial indications are that the total amount being billed has increased significantly. This is because no in patient clinical results can be entered unless the patient is billed.

IMPORTANTLY : Lost, delayed and inaccurate charging will be eliminated and some hospitals utilizing VISUAL MEDSYS have completely done away with their paper based charging system. VISUAL MEDSYS’ unique system of linking financial control to clinical activity assures an accurate and timely billing.

    5. More accurate and timely management reports on hospital operations are now done automatically in the Medical Records and MIS reports.

At the end of each period the system will automatically generate hospital performance reports for management information...

    6. Enhancements can be added such as computerized/telemedicine (on a card) ECG and Pulmonary function tests; these will be integrated with the patient record and viewed any terminal to authorized users.

    Automation

What makes VISUAL MEDSYS a powerful management tool is its carefully planned integration. For instance, in the pharmacy module when a prescription is charged to a patient's statement, then instantaneously and with no additional operator intervention the drug is; (1) accurately priced, (2) deducted from pharmacy inventory, (3) included in a list of billed medicines issued, (4) added to the pharmacy department daily\monthly income report and (5) entered in the patients clinical record. Even the stock card is automatically prepared, and the operator’s access code is recorded. If the prescription is entered from the doctor or nurses terminal the computer will also inform the operator in case of an out of stock situation and present a list of alternates. This gives management excellent control over drug inventory.

Similar designs are built into the accounts receivable and clinical programs. The Medicare/Insurance program gets its data directly from billing, and (l) automatically sets up the account, (2) types the Medicare/Insurance Claim form and, when all data is completed, (3) prepares the transmittal letter. By speeding up accounts receivable processing and even preventing lost or misplaced accounts, VISUAL MEDSYS will quickly pay for itself in cost savings.

There is a myriad of other applications where computers can help. For example, why should laboratory requests have to brought by hand from one department to the other. Let the computer send it at the speed of electricity and do many concurrent tasks: (l) Uncompleted tests can be automatically followed up, (2) the results are sent instantly back to the nurses station and (3) entered in the patients clinical summary, (4) the charge placed in the patients bill and (5) included in the lab daily\monthly income report, (6) totaled in the laboratory monthly\annual clinical performance report and (7) archived for immediate reference even years later. This will not only save on man hours but also improve hospital performance.

The VISUAL MEDSYS program is designed to automate today's medical center as well as provide for the increasingly complex institution of the future. A well planned and powerful computer information system should be able to instantly retrieve patient files from past or present medical records, thus greatly improving patient information flow; use disease index codes to standardize diagnosis; automate the medical records department thus mostly eliminating the need to physically recall patient paper based records except for legal purposes; and provide management with uptodate and accurate financial and patient information for decision making needs.

    Computerization

After more than fifteen years of development Stages I, II & III of MEDSYS are now ready and fully tested for immediate use. The features are easy to implement and regular hospital clerks can be trained to start operations within a few days: There is no need to hire computer experts or subject your staff to extensive training courses and expenses.

    THE FOUR STAGES OF COMPUTERIZATION

    1. BILLING & FINANCIAL
    2. INTEGRATED MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
    3. MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS
    4. INTERACTIVE HOSPITAL SYSTEMS

VISUAL MEDSYS provides the path for a total computerization of your hospital. Beginners in the use of computers tend to look at them as machines similar to an ECG or a calculator. In reality, computerization means an entirely new approach to hospital management systems. And, it is not the machines that do this rather it is the software. In the hospitals of tomorrow computers will not only collect, record and transmit data, but they will also prove to be a powerful tool in the process of improving the quality of patient care.

The key ingredient of the VISUAL MEDSYS program is that it is "action driven". This means that a certain single command such as a doctor making a prescription will force an entire series of events. This would included sending the prescription to the pharmacy over the computer, checking for incompatibilities or allergies, pricing and charging the prescription to the patients bill, deducting it from inventory and entering the prescription in the patient's clinical summary. This will not only result in less work, but a system of control and improved patient care.

Stage 1 encompasses the financial area. This includes inpatient and outpatient billing, accounts receivable (self pay, corporate & PhilHealth), pharmacy and CSR inventory.

Stage 2 brings in the medical aspects. The work flows from admissions to nursing stations, includes clinical areas and then to medical records. This is also integrated with the financial modules. The final objectives include the immediate communication to and from all hospital areas. Also, diagnoses standardized, medical records automated and clinical summaries quickly prepared for authorized users.

Stage 3 brings VISUAL MEDSYS into the area of management information. Performance reports on the hospital's census, medical efficacy, finances are automatically collated from the data in the system and put into graphic and statistical formats that will be quickly and easily interpreted by management. Doctors and nurses will be able to establish protocols for orders that will monitor the quality of patient care.

Stage 4 will put the full power of computerization in your future hospital. Using a new generation of hand held equipment nurses will be able to input vital signs directly at the bedside, doctors will view xrays, EKG’s, MRI scans from any computer terminal in the hospital or at the office, lab results will flow from linked equipment directly into the system, doctors will get help in researching difficult diagnosis, nurses can avail of on line visual training for complex procedures, etc.
